Seattle’s museum of pop culture, MoPOP is presenting its first fashion exhibit, A Queen Within: Adorned Archetypes which is said to explore how designers like Alexander McQueen, Joanne Petit-Frère, Hideki Seo, Gucci, Chromat, and Vivienne Westwood use their work to create a space for contemplating the relationship between dress, society and our shared history.
The exhibit is divided into six sections or personalities of the everyday queen: Sage, Enchantress, Explorer, Mother Earth, Heroine and Thespian. The exhibit highlights a wide range of designers from the internationally famous to the new up and coming with over-the-top gowns, wigs, shoes and more. Various photographs are presented as well “in immersive environments rich in symbolism, inviting visitors to peer into the private worlds of deeply powerful feminine figures,” says MoPOP.
A Queen Within is currently on display through September 2, 2019. The special exhibit is an extra $6 to the regular MoPOP admission (order online for the best price). MoPOP located at 325 5th Ave. N. at the Seattle Center and is open daily from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information, visit the website or give them a call at 206.770.2700.
